Young Koseikan club judoka impress in Melfort tournament
The Moose Jaw Koseikan Judo Club had a chance to check out some of their up-and-coming fighters at a recent beginners tournament in Melfort, seeing a handful of positive results in the process.

Eight local competitors took part in the event and returned with five medals, a gold, three silver and a bronze.

Zephaniah Moore had the most successful tournament of the Koseikan clan, going 3-0 to take first place in the Cadet Boys Novice under- 36 kilogram division - a result made even more impressive in that it was his first provincial tournament.

Competing in the Cadet Boys under-34 kg class, Chad Griffin picked up a victory on his way to a second-place performance. He didn't have quite as much success after moving up a weight class for greater competition, finishing 1-3 and fifth in the under-38 kg division.

Jessica Hebert went 1-1 to take second in the Cadet Girls Novice combined division while Patrick Overs finished second in the Junior Men's Under-60/66 kg class and Nick Hughes put together a third place showing in the Juvenile boys under-51 kg division.

Steven Trudel finished fourth in the Juvenile Boys under-42/45 kg division, while David Moore took fifth in the Senior Men's Open weight class.
