Judo tournament to feature three different competitions

The judo tournament at the Saskatchewan Winter Games will take place from Sunday to Wednesday at Vanier Collegiate.

All competitors must be between 11 and 15 years of age.

Sunday will be practice day.

On Monday weigh-ins start at 7 a.m. with opening ceremonies at 10 a.m. and competition commencing at 10:30 a.m. The day will end with medal presentations at 4:30 p.m.

There will be seven weight classes for both the men's and women's competitions.

In the individual competitions, which will take place on Monday, there will be round robins in each weight class with the leaders in the round robins squaring off for the medals. There will be 14 gold, 14 silver and 28 bronze handed out on this day.

On Tuesday, there will be a team competition. To enter, each district must have at least three competitors to compete. On this day, there will be nine medals of each colour handed out.

Tuesday will commence at 9:30 a.m., with the medal presentations ending the day at 4 p.m.

Wednesday will feature the skills competition as the athletes demonstrate their techniques in executing various throws. In this event there will be six medals of each colour awarded.

The skills competition starts at 8 a.m. and wraps up with medal presentations and closing ceremonies that commence at 11 a.m.
