Judo:
Tournament starts Saturday

Fighters from Edmonton, Winnipeg and 22 clubs from Saskatchewan, including Moose Jaw, will be competing in the third annual Moose Jaw Open Judo Tournament Saturday at Riverview Collegiate High School.

The tourney will begin at noon and is expected to finish about 8 p.m.

Nearly 200 fighters will be competing in 40 weight classes ranging from four and five year-olds to the 209 pounds and greater weight classes.

Moose Jaw will be represented by 25 fighters and instructor Cliff Weins said he expects four or five victories . Weins will be among the 24 local participants.

Weins says he forsees the competition to be top-notch as all zones have picked their representatives for the provincial Winter games in Prince Albert and this will be the final test for many of the fighters before the games.

Moose Jaw has seven fighters going to Prince Albert.
