After 40 years, the provincial Cadet and Juvenile judo championships will return to the 15 Wing Base.The Moose Jaw Koseikan Judo Club will be hosting the Judo Saskatchewan Cadet/Juvenile provincial championships and annual senior tournament Saturday at the 15 Wing gym. The event was held in the same venue in 1967.
Competition begins at 10:30 a.m. and is expected to conclude around 4 p.m. Sunday the athletes will have a team training session with provincial high performance coach Fedor Lazarenko.
The competition will feature 100 to 110 competitors from beginner kids age groups to open weight divisions.
Cadet (competitors born in 1994 or younger) and Juvenile (competitors born between 1991-93) athletes will battle for provincial titles. The older competitors held their provincials earlier in the year in Regina.
While it is largely a provincial event, there will be competition from across the prairie provinces.
This year's event also has a cash open tournament. For a $10 entry fee any judoka can enter to try to win half the entry cash, with the runner up earning 25 per cent of the pot.
