City fighters do well in judo meet

Moose Jaw fighters took two firsts, five seconds and five third place finishes at the Moose Jaw Open Judo Tournament at Riverview Collegiate. Moose Jaw finished seventh over all.

About 200 fighters competed in 40 weight classes. Twenty-five were from Moose Jaw.

Jordan Dellabough captured the junior boys under 50 pounds class with Joshua Wiens placing third.

Ron Baggenstos and Kyle Johnson battled for the boys under 80 pounds title with Baggenstos coming out on top and Johnson ending as the runner-up.

Bonnie Marcynuik finished in second place in the junior girls under 115 pounds competition.

Trent Evenson was runner-up in the highly-competitive boys under 130 pound class.

Vernon MacDonald could not beat Jim Lechner of the Regina RCMP and settled for second spot in the Senior men's under 190 pounds category.

Kenric Phillips was second in the boys under 60 pound class.

Lee Ann Hanson finished behind two Universtity of Saskatchewan fighters to take the third spot in the senior combination under 130 and 115 pound category.

Stella Dellabough was third in the junior girls under 70 pound class.

Cindy Heselton placed third in the girls under 130 pound competition.

Len Partridge wound up in third spot in the brutal Blue, Brown and Black Belt under 209 pounds division.

Prince Albert fighters took the over-all title as they captured first place in seven categories.

This was the last meet prior to the Saskatchewan Winter Games in P.A. scheduled for the end of the month.

A total of 14 clubs participated in the tournament.
