Big medal haul for local judo enthusiasts
This past weekend 14 competitors from the Moose Jaw Koseikan Judo Club attended a tournament in Watrous

Peter Cave and Glen Cullen led an 11-medal day for the club - both earned gold. Cave got his in the juvenile boy's 40kg category and Cullen earned his in the cadet boy's 32kg event.

Other competitors were: Eli Jacobson (silver in cadet boys's 66kg), Leah Jacobson (silver in the juvenile girl's 52kg), Jennifer Fatteicher (silver in cadet girl's 41kg), and Stephanie Legault (silver in cadet girls 32kg).

Elizabeth Legault and Meaghen Cullen each took home a bronze medal in their respective categories, along with Brock Polupski placing fourth in his category.

The senior men and women also had successful days with Jeff Nelson and Steve Hansen both earning silver medals. Nelson received his in the 65-kg category and Hansen earned his in the 71kg category. Jim Wiens won a bronze medal in the senior men's 95kg category and Kerry Vigar placed fourth in the senior men's 78-kg category. Nancy Filteau fought in the senior women's 72-kg category, but had to withdraw due to injury.

In addition to attending the Watrous tournament the Moose Jaw Koseikan Judo Club has participated in many tournaments during the last month and a half. On Nov.25, two competitors attended a tournament in Edmonton. Jeff Nelson took home a gold in the senior men's novice 60-kg category and Steve Hansen received a silver medal in the senior men's novice 71-kg category.

On Nov. 18, ten competitors attended a tournament in Melfort. Two athletes received gold - Meaghen Cullen (cadet girl's 45.5kg), and Matthew Bespalko (juvenile boy's 64kg). Leah Jacobson and Jeff Nelson each took home a silver medal in their respective categories. In addition, Jarrod Erickson and Steve Hansen earned bronze medals in their respective senior men's divisions. Glen Cullen and Eli Jacobson each placed fourth, along with Josh Wiens placing fourth in the senior men's advanced 95kg category.

Jeff Nelson, Steve Hansen and Ken Blandford attended a tournament on Oct. 28 in Brandon. Nelson fought in the senior men's novice category in two weight categories: 60kg - gold medal and 65kg - bronze medal. Hansen fought in the senior men's advanced 71kg and placed fourth. Blandford fought in the senior men's advanced 86kg and earned a silver.
