Judo club red-hot

The Moose Jaw Koseikan Judo Club was top-heavy on the weekend and landed on the podium 11 times.

Fourteen local judokans attended a tournament Saturday in Watrous and returned with four gold medals, five silver and one bronze. The Koseikan Club swept at least the top two placings in three categories.

In the Cadet Boys under 26-kilogram class, Moose Javians filled the winners’ circle. Chris Gerry won gold ahead of Connor MacDonald and Cameron Walker — who was fighting in his first tournament.

Vince Langevin and Mark Kerr added a one-two punch for Moose Jaw in the Cadet Boys over 46-kg class, as did Jarrod Robinson and Dan Drescanin (another first-time competitor) in Senior Men’s combined 86/90-kg division.

Jeff Nelson added second in the Senior Men’s under 65-kg category.

In girls’ action, two Moose Javians went undefeated to earn gold: Marissa Kerr (Cadet under 34-kg) and Stephanie Legault (Cadet under 42-kg).

Jovette Langevin kept up the rookie exploits, winning silver in the Cadet Girs’ under 23-kg class.
